Tom Kolovos is an image consultant, fashion stylist, writer and television commentator. He has served as fashion editor of Today's Chicago Woman and as the fashion and style contributor for the NBC5 Weekend Morning News. He now contributes on The NBC Chicago Street Team blog and writes about fashion and style for NBCchicago.com
After pursuing his undergaduate studies in Economics and graduate work in Political Philosophy at the University of Chicago, Tom taught political sociology and popular culture at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Tom's unconventional background gives him the unique ability to understand, and consequently convey to his clients and the media, fashion and identity in its sociopolitical context.
His fashion advice has been featured prominently in online media, The Daily Herald, The Chicago Sun Times, The Chicago Tribune, The New York Daily News, The Independent, InStyle, and Women's Wear Daily.
Interviews with USA Today, NBC, FOX, CBS and his blogging have established him as one of the leading authorities on style and presidential politics in campaign 2008
On his own blog on style/off topic, , he hopes to continue the mission he started with his review of the Christian Dior exhibit at the Chicago History Museum in SIFT magazine : to explore, with his sense of candor and humor, the connections between style, the whims of fashion and popular culture to the larger socioeconomic and political landscape.
The sheer breadth of experience Tom brings to each project and each client is unique in an industry of stylists and image consultants who tout cliches and feel good platitudes. His editorial and television experience informs his work with private clients and vice versa.
Because of his work with models, photographers, professional athletes, politicians, television stars and with movie stars for appearances on "Oprah," Tom believes a fashion stylist is no longer a luxury for the rich and famous but an excellent resource for anyone interested in realizing the full potential of a positive self image in their personal and professional lives.
It's all in a day's work. So are imagination, laughter and style.
